What's happening here?

Ok, so seriously we need to pick a new Tri or event to work towards. Sharu, you seem the most familiar with scouting these things out. Is there any possibility of finding something in or near Singapore in December 2009 when we've all gathered for Nithin's wedding?

I plan on being in Singapore around the December 20th and staying until after New Years. Just planting a seed... hoping it will grow ;)

Total Madness

I'm stoked about this Singapore Tri! I was on a walk in Santa Barbara and I just started envisioning myself participating in this event... you could not get me to stop smiling! It's really a rush.

My problem at the moment getting in workouts with all the madness in my life right now. I am trying to live up Santa Barbara and profit from beautiful sunny California for the last month that I am here. There is so much to do. And moving abroad is stressful! I have joined a team commute challenge and have resolved to riding my bike/taking the bus to work(http://www.trafficsolutions.info/default.htm). It is for the month of August and September. Hopefully it will be a good way to ease into the more serious training.

Any suggestion for training while traveling?

Thinking about training

How do we want to get started on this thing?

Arv & I were talked about not seeing it as 14 months of training for a half-iron triathlon, but to break it up into shorter-term goals:

1. July thru Sep 08 - skills building - polishing swimming & biking techniques, and just starting to get in a few short workouts every week.

2. Sep thru March 09 - train for a haf-marathon, throw in swim/bike workouts as cross-training. Those in warmer climates might shoot to do a sprint distance tri?

3. March thru July 09 - sign up for half-iron training program. We know a really good training group in town, Rogue Training Systems, so we're probably sticking with them.

What do you guys think?

Kick off!!

I don't know what possessed me to think about doing this race. No idea. I'm barely recovering from a bad back, and as of now, can only do about 3 miles without having back issues. I haven't biked since my last sprint distance tri in October 2007.

But a few weeks ago, when I happened to come across the Aviva 70.3 website, the thought crept up on me - what if, just what if I could go back to my home town Singapore and do a tri there?! The course is pretty flat for the most part, and I woud be in familiar territory. The idea was too tempting to let go. And I knew it would difficult to do this al by myself. So one by one, I started thinking of others who might be crazy enough to do this with me - the brave ones from my list of friends and family emerged:

1. Arvind - my hubby & coach for my first series of tris last year. He trained with me and frankly, if he knew how to swim well, he would have been far ahead of me in terms of doing tris, because he's a pretty natural runner.

2. Anisha & Shobhana -who had done a Long course tri as their FIRST TRI ever after training for 4 months!! So I knew they would be game for a challenge like this!)

2. Tanya - who had confessed to me in Sep last year, that she wanted to do a tri after her baby boy was born. Being a super athlete with a gung-ho spirit, I knew she would be in. :)

3. Ashok - Army officer & marathoner (need I say more?)

4. Chetan - ditto. :) This man has discipline of steel.

5. Bharat - who happened to approach me to find out about how & why I had caught the tri-bug having been so sedentary for the most part of my life. It didn't take long for me to nudge him into doing one. Bee cannot say no to a challenge.

Let's see who else will join this crazy adventure! :)

Vive La Aviva!
